Ola Electric To Recall Over 1,400 Electric Scooters Amid Rise In Fire Incidents

New Delhi: In wake of frequent incidents of fire in scooters, Ola Electric has decided to recall 1,441 units of its electric scooter from the market.

As per the company, the investigation into the incident of fire in its e-scooter in Pune on March 26 is going on.

The investigation so far has revealed that this is the only case of its kind. However, the company said that it is recalling 1,441 electric scooters of this consignment from the market for safety and it will examine these scooters.

''Our engineers will thoroughly check these scooters. They will check everything from battery system, thermal system to security system etc. The company claimed that its battery system is better than before and all the parameters have been taken care of. It has been tested for AIS 156. This is the proposed new standard for India. Apart from this, this battery also meets the European Standard ECE 136,'' the company claimed.

Incidents of electric two-wheelers catching fire have been reported at many places in the country in the recent past. Due to this, electric two-wheeler companies are recalling their vehicles from the market.

Okinawa Autotech has withdrawn more than 3,000 units from the market, while Pure EV has also recalled 2,000 vehicles from the market.

The first incident of fire in an electric scooter took place in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district on March 25. A fire broke out in the Okinawa company's Okhi scooter while charging.

Notably, the government has too taken the cognisance of the incidents which have prompted them to form a panel to examine and had warned companies of penalties if they were found to be negligent.

After this, several such incidents were reported at different places in the country.
